2nd Annual Conference, 27 and 28 August 2009
Participating Universities: Ghent, Groningen, (Göttingen), Uppsala, Turku
Host: Ghent University, Faculty of Law
Aim
With this conference, the faculties actively promote staff to present European oriented legal research papers in a friendly and stimulating research environment.
Set up
In the course of these two days there will be two or three keynote speakers and several workshops at which researchers will be invited to share their latest research with colleagues. A brief account of the doctoral school activities will be given by the session leaders. During the workshops, which will take place on Thursday afternoon and Friday, participants will be able to discuss their research as well as to expand their international network. The conference will be held in English.
Theme
The theme of the conference is “European dimensions to national law”. On the first day, keynote speeches will introduce this theme from the perspective of EU law. The other workshops in the conference will be open to all national law subjects in their relation to EU law and/or international law, such as administrative, private or criminal law. More information on the theme can be read here: 2009 LRNC Theme.
Conference proceedingsAll working papers will be published in digital form as the Proceedings of the Annual Legal Research Network Conference 2009. The organizing committee also contemplates to publish a bundle of readings depending on the quality of the papers, either as a book (for instance aimed at the theme), or as a specific issue of a peer-reviewed journal (which need not necessarily be thematically oriented). Participants will be informed on the efforts of the organizing committee on this issue.
The Annual Legal Research Network Conference 2009 is free of charge for participating authors and discussants from the associated faculties. As the Conference is part of the strategic cooperation of our faculties, each faculty will subsidize the travel and hotel costs of her own staff. This year the Ghent faculty bears the costs of organizing the Conference, including conference materials, coffee, lunches and the conference dinner.
